Safer future for St Andrews Lutheran College

Children in the Burleigh electorate will have safer journeys to and from class each day with the installation of flashing school zone signs.

Member for Burleigh Michael Hart MP said that many schools across Queensland are already benefiting from safer school zones as we are halfway through the LNP Government’s $10 million school flashing lights program.

“This important election promise gives parents peace of mind their children are safer heading to and from school,” Mr Hart said.

“In the Burleigh electorate, the next school to benefit from our strong plan for school safety is St Andrews Lutheran College.”

Mr Hart said the signs reminded drivers to slow down in and around school areas while young Queenslanders made their way to and from school.

“The safety of children walking to and from school is paramount and the continued roll out of flashing school zone signs across the state is proof of our commitment to child safety,” he said.

“Motorists need to slow down and drive to conditions at all times to avoid tragedy in and around schools.”

St Andrews joins others in the Burleigh area which are already benefiting from the installation of flashing lights including Caningeraba State School and Marymount College.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said schools were selected based on a detailed risk analysis of all existing school zones in Queensland and following nominations by schools, communities and local Members of Parliament.

“Priority has been given to school zones with a significant crash history, a high level of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, higher speed limits and visibility problems,” he said.
