Hart keeps traffic moving in Burleigh
Member for Burleigh Michael Hart has successfully lobbied Transport and Main Roads to provide better flowing traffic and alleviate congestion along Goodwin Terrace.
In consultation with local residents and in response to a growing safety concern along the Burleigh Beach strip, Michael sought action from the department to rectify the issues.
‘With so many people visiting iconic Burleigh beach, it takes 2 or 3 sets of lights to get out of Goodwin Terrace and North onto the Gold Coast Highway some days which is beyond frustrating for residents and visitors alike.’
‘Getting traffic flowing is a huge priority for me in the area and after an accident involving a pedestrian in December last year, it became imperative the lights at Goodwin Terrace were addressed as a priority,’ said Mr Hart.
Michael is pleased to advise after a meeting with representatives yesterday, emergency funds will be accessed to add a turning arrow at the intersection out of Goodwin Terrace so there will be both a right and left turning arrow.
The left turning arrow will be synched with the pedestrian crossing lights ensuring better safety for the walking public while allowing traffic to move freely North.
With a captive audience of representatives, Mr Hart turned his attention to other roads in Burleigh needing attention and is requesting improvements along Bermuda Street from the Pacific Highway.
‘I’m also aware of ongoing noise and vibration issues along this particular stretch and have called on Transport and Main Roads to erect additional signage to those I had installed in 2014.’
‘Too many road users are still pulling over to check for flat tires and presenting a safety risk for themselves and a distraction for other drivers,’ said Mr Hart.
Transport and Main Roads have advised Mr Hart there is new technology available for resurfacing and it is being tested at this time.
‘I will always lobby for better roads in the Burleigh electorate and I urge residents to contact my office if they have a road or traffic concern they would like me to look at.’
